On the verge of a breakdown after experiencing work place bullying, I turned to yoga for the strength to make it through the day. I never wanted to feel this way again and needed help. After 11 long months of following a home designed self-care programme, I was finally starting to feel like me once more. Building in confidence, self-reliance and strength, it was at that turning point, I knew yoga is for all, regardless of ability, age and background.
The benefits from learning techniques to utilise the breath, reducing symptoms of anxiety and stress can never be under estimated. Having the opportunity to sit with one's thoughts, recognising we have the power to change the dialect from negative to positive, is revolutionary and changed my life. Improving personal relationships, understanding your emotions are invaluable tools to navigate the winding road of life.
The beneficial effects of yoga are now being recognised for a range of health conditions including depression, anxiety, chronic stress, PTSD, arthritis, strokes, osteoporosis, hip and knee replacements, the list goes on.
Yoga is a great way to improve both physical and mental well-being. Developing core strength, flexibility, mobility and balance performing postures. Whilst cultivating body and mind awareness through the lens of non-judgment, encouraging peace of mind by means of relaxation, pranayama (conscious breathing) and meditation techniques.
